Deconstructing Film Titles

When you first look at just the tile "case 39" seems to be something to do with law or crime because you normally associate a case to such as a court case. However, the title is ghostly like which creates a sense of mystery and the film could be about solving a problem. Also by looking at the type of font you can see its an old type font which could mean something to do with the past and thus this suggests to me this film is an horror/thriller genre film.

The tile is clear, bold and in your face, this suggests to me the film is about something is coming. the title heightens anticipation as you don't know whats going to happen when the date comes. However, when you look at the image it you realise that this is a comedy film and the title has no significance to the genre.

When you read the title its as if someone is locked out trying to get into your house. The title seems creepy, the use of grey creates a gloomy setting and the red in the middle of the title could represent blood. Straight away you can tell by the title is a horror genre and when looking at the whole image you can tell.

Conventions of trailers

Anaysing a trailer

Teaser trailers

I researched into the difference between a teaser trailer and a normal trailer. Here is an example of a teaser trailer:

Only films with a large budgets choose to follow this kind of marketing campaign. The reason for this is to create hype and anticipation. They want the audience to be aware of the fact that there is a new film being made and will be coming out soon. Usually teaser trailers are released while the film is still in production and thus things can changed when the actual film is released.
Teaser trailer are usually much shorter than actual trailer such as the one above only 21 seconds. the reason for this is because the people who are making the film want to give limited amount of what the film is going to be about and to create interest, in some instance these trailers do not give any details of who will star in the film or a release date. the objective of a teaser is to just bring awareness that there is a film being made and to create an audience.
We have been put in a group of three and been set a task for a film campaign. My group is made up of myself, Alex and Micheal. We picked are groups based on skills which suit our needs in making the campaign, skills such as ICT skills, creative skills, writing skills and experiencing in filming. We have been set a deadline for this coursework to be submitted by 1st December 2010. To fulfill this campaign to our best of abilities we decided to give someone the responsibility to organize what we do and reach deadlines when set. In this campaign we will be creating a film trailer, poster and a magazine cover.

shot types/editing stage

During this stage we collected our footage and uploaded it to an Apple Mac computer. Here we then started using an editing software called Imovie. The reason we was given this task was enable us to gain skills which which would help us when editing our main trailer which we will create in the future. this task gave us an insight in how we shoot our footage and what program we would use to editour footage.

Here are some shots we used in our video:

This is an establishing shot, this allows the audience to know where the video is set.

Cut on motion.
we used this type of editing technique so the audience don't realiase that has been a cut

Here is another example:

The ball leaves from the right but enters from the left on the next shot. We used this to distract the audience from noticing the cut.

Here is the video :

Feedback lesson:
This was a very useful as all the students in the class were able to watch the video and give us feeback. In this lesson we were able to effectively evaluate were we went wrong and the parts we did good and how we could improve the footage. We took down notes on all the improvements we could have done such as add dialogue as this was limited in the footage etc. This task enabled us to get a taste of what we were preparing ourselves when creating our horror trailer. The skills we learn't from this experience will put us in a better position for the future.

Preliminary Task

As practice and warm up for our advance portfolio we was given a task in a group of three to shot a short video of "the meeting". we designed a simple storyboard and went on to shoot the video.
we used this task to put in practice what we learn't from our AS media of shot types. Here is the plan of our storyboard :

During the planing we decided which shots was used in which part of the video. we knew what kind of effect we wanted to get in each scene and thus the shots types were very effeective.
